LemonStand Version 1 Has Been Discontinued

This documentation is for LemonStand Version 1. LemonStand is now offered as a cloud-based eCommerce platform.
You can try the new LemonStand and learn about upgrading here.

Moving LemonStand installation to another server

There are two ways to copy a website to another server.

  1. CMS Import/Export feature. This method is described in the CMS Import & Export blog post.
  2. Using the full system backup feature. This method is described in this documentation article.

The second option copies all database content and all uploaded files (like product images) to another LemonStand installation. It also copies all user accounts, sales data and LemonStand license information. It means that you will have two copies of LemonStand with a same serial number. It does not violates the license agreement, because the both copies represent a single website. Also, the second way implies that you use a same encryption key on both servers. Otherwise LemonStand will not be able to decrypt data stored in the imported database. In practice it means that when you import a backup from the development server to live, you will need to go to the Configuration Tool on the live server and change the database encryption key value to a value which you use on the development server.

After copying the entire website using the second method, you can continue improving the website on your development server, and updating the live server using the first method (CMS Import/Export). It will be updating only CMS objects (pages, templates, partials and resource files), while user accounts and sales data will be untouched. Also you should remember that the CMS Import feature overwrites existing CMS objects on the server, so you should always watch whether somebody made changes on the live server.
