How to Manually Configure Free Shipping for Single Products

Configuring free shipping on a per-product basis

The Discount Engine has a special action "Apply free shipping to the cart products", which allows you to configure free shipping on per-product basis. Unlike other discount actions, this action does not apply any discounts to the cart or cart items. It affects only the total shipping cost. With this action, you can use any conditions which you use with other actions. For example, you can create free shipping for a specific product and for a specific shipping option, like on the images below:

If you use free shipping with weight-based table rate shipping option, you should define a row for zero weight. If your rate table is subtotal-based, you should define a row with zero rate for zero subtotal. The row should be first in the table. Example:

Do not confuse the cart-wide Free Shipping feature (which you can set up on the Free Shipping tab) with the per-product free shipping feature. The cart-wide free shipping applies free shipping to all products in the cart, but for specific shipping options. On the other hand, the per-product free shipping option (which you can setup with the Apply free shipping to the cart products discount rule), can apply free shipping to specific products (which match the product filter conditions), for all shipping options. The common mistake is configuring both options - define per-product free shipping for specific products and then mark some shipping options on the Free Shipping tab. This does not work - the options selected on the Free Shipping tab will be applied cart-wide, for all products.
